Cultural Sensitivity Training
UAC offers custom training sessions for professionals such as teachers, social workers and health care workers, especially those in the helping professions who work with Urban Appalachian families. Some of our clients include:
| Lighthouse Youth Services | Pro Kids | |
| Talbert House | Wilimington College | |
| Clermont County Child Focus | Shriner's Burn Hospital | |
| St. Paul Church - Florence | Family & Children First Council | |
| Cinti. Bulk Mail Center | Mayerson Foundation | |
| University of Cincinnati | Fitton Center for the Arts | |

Many people, both UAC employees and volunteers, give of their time and talents to help others better understand Appalachian and Urban Appalachian people and their culture. College professors, teachers, musicians, storytellers, living history interpreters, clergy and people with social service training are available to meet the particlular needs of each client. Some of the elements which are most commonly requested in our sessions include:
- History of Appalachia
- Migration to cities
- Issues facing today's Urban Appalachian
- Stereotyping and discrimination against the "invisible minority"
- Appalachian values
- The evolution and importance of music and storytelling in Appalachian culture
- Tips on how to work with Urban Appalachian clients
- The Appalachian family
- Appalachians and substance abuse
- History of and programs offered by UAC
- Guided tours of urban Appalachian neighborhoods and facilitated discussion
We provide information resources including bibliographies, movie/documentary lists, website lists, and we have several films we use as part of our trainings.
We offer a sliding scale for trainings, depending on the elements and personnel required; most sessions will run between $100 - $200/hr.
